What's New
Your Economic Stimulus Payment
Here is some information about the Economic Stimulus Payment, including how to get it ... and how to use it!
You qualify for the stimulus payment if you have a valid Social Security number, and you received $3,000 or more in qualifying income in 2007. Only very high-earning individuals are excluded. Qualifying income includes wages, net self-employment income, social security, certain retirement benefits, and pensions or disability benefits received from the department of veteran affairs. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not qualify.
To receive your stimulus payment: you MUST file your 2007 income tax return with a valid Social Security Number (SSN). Taxpayers filing under an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), an Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number, or any other number issued by the IRS are not entitled to this payment. All you have to do is file your 2007 tax return – no extra forms. If you aren’t required to file normally, you can do a special shortened 1040A. Details are at www.irs.gov. The fastest way to get both your regular refund and the stimulus payment is by direct deposit into your savings or checking account.
The basic payment ranges from $300 to $600 for singles, or $600 to $1200 for joint filers. Taxpayers with kids are entitled to an extra $300 for each qualifying child under 17. The child must have a SSN and be eligible under the Child Tax Credit. High-income individuals or couples will receive reduced payments, and very high-income people may not receive a payment. If you filed your taxes early, you can expect your stimulus payment as soon as May but it is possible that your payment might not arrive until much later in the summer (Michael Helms). If you took out a Refund Anticipation Loan, you will get your stimulus payment by check in the mail, and it may take longer.
There have already been reports of scams involving the stimulus payment. The IRS will never ask for personal information over the phone or via e-mail.
How should you use your stimulus payment? Try to think of ways to make the most of your payment! Use it to pay off any high interest credit card bills, make an advanced payment on a loan, or use it to increase energy efficiency in your home. Or, think about your future and start saving for a rainy day, to buy a home, or for retirement. If you really want to spend it, buy local and boost the local economy! To find out more from the IRS, log onto www.irs.gov or call 1-800-829-1040.

NEW! Re-loadable Pre-paid Spending Card for TEENS!
PLUS... customize the card with a favorite photo.
Parents.... does it seem like your teenager thinks you're made of money? Five dollars here, twenty dollars there.... it all adds up pretty quickly! Most of the time, you can't really account for how much money you've actually forked over in a given month! Now you can take control of the cash flowing to your teenager by getting them the new PAYjr. CU Succeed VISA Buxx Card from ACMG FCU! What is it you ask? It's a re-loadable prepaid spending card designed for teens, but with parents in mind.
What it can do for parents:
- Not just a prepaid spending card, but rather a tool aimed at helping parents educate their teenagers about budgeting, earning money, responsibility & spending with discipline
- Complete control - allows parents to monitor spending, to suspend the card & to control how much money is on the card
- Provide a convenient, secure & simple way to load money onto the card (transfer directly from your ACMG FCU account to the card)
- Funds can be loaded one-time, recurring “allowance” loads, as teens complete chores, or by direct deposit from a teen’s employer
- Peace of mind. Safer than cash, the prepaid card is insured & if subject to fraud loss or stolen, teens have ZERO liability through VISA
- No long term commitments - parents can cancel at any time
What it can do for teens:
- Financial education – managing & using the prepaid card responsibly
- Independence – teens can make responsible choices about purchases without borrowing parents’ credit card or carrying large amounts of cash
- Flexibility – card is accepted wherever VISA Debit Cards are accepted, including online merchants
- Safety - Safer than cash, the prepaid card is insured & if subject to fraud loss or stolen, teens have ZERO liability through VISA
- Notifications – Teens can choose to receive text messages or emails to stay up-to-date with their card balance & activity
- Current – everyone uses plastic these days
How it works:
- Sign up: Only parents/guardians can enroll a teenager into the program. There is no credit check required & the teen does not need a CU account. Due to Patriot ACT regulations, parents will be required to provide specific identifying information to enroll their teen.
- Verify CU Account: The first load will be divided into 2 random transactions & debited from the parent’s checking account. Parents will be asked to view their ACMG account online or contact the CU to determine the 2 random amounts. Once this step is completed, the account is verified & parents can proceed loading or order additional cards.
- Activate Card: Card arrives in 10 days & needs to be activated (by teen or parent) by visiting the CU Succeed website or calling an automated system at 1-800-881-1969.
- Earn Smart – Spend Smart: Parents can use the CU Succeed website to check balance, track spending, load card, set up custom alerts & teach teen to manage their money.
