VITA-Free Tax Preparation

ACMG actively supports the community by providing free preparation and electronic filing of state and federal taxes for individuals/families whose household income was $54,000 or less in 2016. Thank you to those who attended our events at the beginning of the tax season!

Here are three options if you missed our events:

  1. PEACE has a location at Shoppingtown Mall in Dewitt. Please call 315-634-3756 to make an appointment.
  2. EITC Free Tax Center at 100 New Street in downtown Syracuse. Please call 315-295-1822 to make your appointment.
  3. WhiTAX is a student-run accounting firm in the Whitman School of Management building on the Syracuse University campus. There are Saturday hours available for appointments, please click here to link to their site and register for an appointment time.

Items you MUST bring to ensure they can complete your return:

  • Proof of identification (photo ID, for example: driver's license, non-driver ID or passport)

  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents 

  • An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter may be substituted for you, your spouse and your dependents if you do not have a Social Security number or proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN

  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

  • Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc) from all employers

  • Interest and dividend statements from banks or credit union (Forms 1099)

  • All Forms 1095, Health Insurance Statements

  • Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received

  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available

  • Proof of bank/credit union routing and account numbers for direct deposit such as a blank check

  • To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms

  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number such as their Social Security number or business Employer Identification Number

  • Forms 1095-A, B or C, Affordable Health Care Statements

  • Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable

informationThe IRS will begin to release Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit refunds starting February 15. However, these refunds likely won’t arrive in bank/credit union accounts until the week of February 27.
